Tantrum Tracker is made by Bad Yorkie Studios, an independent
studio that has supported the app since 2013. Subscriptions are billed by Apple
and Google, so cancellations and refunds are handled there — everything else
comes to us.
Upgrading from the original app
I've used Tantrum Tracker for years. Do I have to pay now?
No. If you purchased the original iOS app, the core app stays free for you. Your tracking, charts, and all your existing records stay available at no cost. Premium is optional and adds cloud features: reaching your records from any device, backing up photos and videos, and sharing with a co-parent or clinician. You never have to subscribe to keep using what you already had.
The app asked to migrate my data the first time I opened it. What is that?
Version 4 uses a new storage system. The first time you open it, it copies your existing records into the new format. This usually takes a few seconds, or a minute or two if you have a lot of photos and videos. Please leave the app open while it runs. Your original data is kept until the copy is confirmed complete.
The app used to be a one-time purchase. Why is there a subscription now?
The original app stored everything on your device only. Version 4 adds optional cloud features (reaching your records from any device, backing up your photos and videos, and sharing records with another adult), and those have ongoing server costs. That is what the subscription pays for. The on-device experience you already bought stays free.
Subscription, billing and trials
Do I need to pay to try Tantrum Tracker?
No. Tantrum Tracker has a free version that works on your device with no account and no subscription, and it does not expire. Premium adds the cloud features, and it has a 7-day free trial on both the App Store and Google Play. Store free trials are one per account, so the trial is not available again to anyone who has subscribed before.
What does Premium include?
Choosing several categories for a single incident, cloud backup with a 10 GB allowance and access from any device, the advanced charts, and Support Circle (sharing a child's records and your custom categories with up to 5 people).
Can I use the app without subscribing?
Yes. Tantrum Tracker has a free version that works entirely on your device, with no account and no subscription: track one child, log incidents exactly as always, and see your charts. The free version shows 4 charts from the last 90 days. Subscribe to Premium for all 19 charts and your full history. Photos and videos stay on your device. If you purchased the original app before version 4, you keep the full original feature set instead. See Upgrading from the original app above. Subscribing adds the cloud: backup, access from any device, the advanced charts, and Support Circle.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so cancellation happens there. We cannot cancel or refund on your behalf.
iPhone/iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Tantrum Tracker → Cancel Subscription.
Android: open Tantrum Tracker → Settings → Manage Subscription, or go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions → Tantrum Tracker → Cancel.
I subscribed before and reinstalled the app. How do I get my subscription back?
Sign in with the same account, then use Restore Purchases on the subscription screen. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you originally purchased with.
I share subscriptions with my family through Apple. Does that cover Tantrum Tracker?
No. Apple's Family Sharing and Google Play's family library do not cover Tantrum Tracker subscriptions. Each person who wants access needs their own subscription.
Your data and privacy
Where is my data stored?
If you subscribe, your records are stored in Google's cloud service on secure servers, encrypted in transit and at rest, and reachable only by you and anyone you explicitly share with. If you use the free version, or the original legacy app, your data never leaves your device.
Is my child's information sold, shared, or used for advertising?
No. Tantrum Tracker contains no advertising and no advertising identifiers. We do not sell your child's information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Records go only to the people you choose to share them with, through Support Circle.
Does the app collect statistics about how I use it?
Yes, but they are not tied to your account: which screens are opened and which features are used, so we can see what to improve. They never include your child's records (no names, no episodes, no health markers, no notes, no photos, and nothing you type), and they are never shared with advertisers. You can turn them off in Settings → Privacy.
Do you need my child's date of birth?
No. The app stores an age only, and only if you enter one. There is no date-of-birth field anywhere in Tantrum Tracker.
What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
You keep your records. After a subscription ends there is a grace period, and we email you, and notify you on your device if you allow notifications, before anything changes. At the end of the grace period, open the app and sign in: your records and your photos and videos are moved back onto your device. That is true for every subscriber, whether you bought the original app or subscribed to version 4. The app keeps working in the free version. You can also move them earlier from the reminder in the app. Your cloud copy is removed once the move completes; if you resubscribe later, your data moves back to the cloud. If you do not open the app, nothing is moved, and your cloud copy is removed after the emails we send you.
How do I delete my account and everything in it?
Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your records, photos and videos, and your account itself. It cannot be undone.
I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Why am I still signed in?
On some devices your sign-in is kept by the operating system's secure storage, so reinstalling the app can leave you signed in. Deleting the app does not reliably sign you out or delete your data. Use Settings → Sign Out to end access on that device, or Settings → Delete Account to remove your records and account entirely.
Can I export my records?
Premium subscribers, and anyone who purchased the original paid app, can export their tracking data as a CSV file, which opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. The free version does not include the CSV export, but everyone can download a complete copy of their records (not the photos and videos). See the next answer.
How do I download or delete my child's records?
In the app, open Settings → Privacy. Download my records gives you a copy of everything you have entered about a child (profile, episodes, health markers and notes), plus the list of everyone who has received them. Photos and videos are not in the file; save them from the gallery with Save to Photos. Delete all my records removes everything, from your device and from our cloud if you subscribe. Your account and subscription stay; cancel the subscription in the store if you no longer want it. You can also delete a single child from the child list (tap Edit). If you would rather email us, write to privacy@badyorkiestudios.com from the address on your account and we will act within 45 days. Deleted records may remain in our recovery systems for up to 14 days, and then they are gone for good.
Can I use the app without creating an account?
Yes. The free version (and the original app's full feature set, if you purchased it) works entirely on your device with no account. An account is needed only for cloud features, because they need somewhere to store your data.
Sharing with a co-parent, sitter or clinician
How do I share a child's records with someone else?
Settings → Support Circle → create a circle, then invite by email address and choose their role. They will see the invitation when they sign in.
What happens to my Support Circle if my subscription ends?
If you own a Support Circle and your subscription ends and the grace period passes, the circles you own close and their members lose access to the records you shared with them; you keep the records on your own device once you open the app. If your own subscription ends while you are a member of someone else's circle, you leave it.
Does the person I invite need their own subscription?
Yes. Every person with access needs their own subscription. This is not a family plan. Each account carries its own storage and usage.
What can each role do?
Owner: full control, including inviting and removing people and deleting the circle.
Editor: can add and change records.
Viewer: can see records but not change them.
How many people can I share with?
Up to 5 people per circle on Premium.
Photos and video
Why hasn't my video uploaded?
Videos are compressed before upload, which takes a moment, and uploads only run while the app is open and you have a connection. If a video is still very large after compression it cannot be backed up to the cloud. It stays safely on your device and is marked with a badge in the gallery.
How much storage do I get?
10 GB with Premium. As a rough guide that is around 18 hours of video, or a very large number of photos. You can see your usage in Settings.
Does the app change or delete photos in my phone's photo library?
No. When you import from your photo library, the app makes its own copy and never modifies or deletes your originals.
Why do my photos look slightly lower quality in the cloud?
Photos and videos are compressed before being backed up, so they use less of your storage allowance and upload faster.
App Lock
I forgot my App Lock PIN.
If biometrics are set up (Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone; fingerprint or face unlock on Android), the lock screen tries them automatically, and you can tap the button to try again. That's the quickest way back in. If biometrics fail, your device passcode will unlock it. If you don't use biometrics, the lock screen shows an "Unlock with device passcode" button (on Android: "Unlock with screen lock"). Your phone's own passcode, PIN, or pattern unlocks the app. If your phone has no passcode or screen lock at all, set one in your phone's Settings, then fully close the app and reopen it. The unlock button will appear. If you're signed in to an account, you can also tap Forgot PIN?. You'll be signed out and App Lock will be turned off, so signing back in with your account gets you straight in. You can set a new PIN afterwards in Settings.
Widget and Apple Watch
My widget or Watch app isn't showing recent entries.
Open the main app once and let it finish loading. The widget and Watch app refresh from it. If entries logged on the Watch are not appearing on your phone, open the app on your phone while the Watch is nearby and connected.
About the app
Is Tantrum Tracker a medical or diagnostic tool?
No. Tantrum Tracker is an informational record-keeping tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice, and it is not a medical device. The charts and reports are there to help you observe patterns and share them with a professional who can interpret them. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider about your child's health.
What languages does the app support?
English and Spanish.
How do I contact you?
Email support@badyorkiestudios.com. We reply as quickly as we can.
